A 34-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder following an investigation by the RCMP Major Crime Unit into the homicide of Christopher Dedam in Esgenoôpetitj First Nation, N.B.
The charge was laid against Nikita Dedam in Miramichi Provincial Court on April 1, 2021. She remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 13.
On August 25, 2020, members of the Tracadie RCMP responded to a home on Micmac Road for a report of a man who was found unresponsive. When police arrived, a 34-year-old man from the community was found deceased. The investigation determined that the man's death was the result of a homicide.
The next day, a 33-year-old woman from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation was arrested in relation to the incident. She was held in custody on an unrelated matter.
The investigation is ongoing.
