At 5:26 p.m. on January 5, a member of East Hants District RCMP was investigating a complaint of a stolen truck. The vehicle had been stolen from Lower Sackville earlier that evening and had been spotted by a resident of Shubenacadie. The truck was parked in the resident's driveway and he told police the driver and passenger were drinking alcohol as they sat in the truck in his driveway.
RCMP members went to the address and located the truck with the two occupants inside. A police vehicle pulled into the driveway behind the truck and the RCMP member activated the emergency equipment on the police vehicle. The truck rammed the police vehicle. The two occupants then ran from the truck, and the RCMP officer pursued them on foot. He arrested the driver, a 16-year-old male youth, and an HRP K-9 unit was called to assist with locating the passenger.
While the K-9 Unit was searching for the passenger, a call of another stolen vehicle was received by police. The call was dispatched to East Hants District RCMP at 6:46 p.m. The car had been stolen from the driveway of a nearby residence in Shubenacadie. Police located the vehicle at approximately 7:20 p.m., driving South on Hwy. 102, North of Exit 4C. Members of Halifax District RCMP, Indian Brook RCMP, and Halifax Regional Police provided assistance in attempting to locate the vehicle.
A spike belt was used to slow the vehicle, however it turned left onto Glendale Ave. Extension, then right onto Damascus Rd. It then turned onto Duke St. The vehicle then did a u-turn at the end of the road and collided with an RCMP vehicle that was attempting to stop it. The driver of the car, a 17-year-old male youth who had been a passenger in the truck from earlier, was arrested without further incident. Both vehicles were damaged however no one was injured. An RCMP Traffic Analyst was called in to assist with the investigation.

- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Flight From a Peace Officer
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Breach of Conditions x 2)
The 17-year-old male from Alton is facing charges of:
- Impaired Operation of a Conveyance
- Operating a Conveyance With a Blood Alcohol Level over 80 mg%
- Assaulting a Peace Officer
- Flight From a Peace Officer
- Mischief
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Obstruction
- Breach of Conditions (x 2)
Both individuals were held in custody overnight and will appear in court today. The investigation is ongoing.
