Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate break and enter/theft at two businesses – Update 2

Wood Buffalo RCMP have arrested a second adult male in relation to the break and enter/thefts to multiple businesses between Gregoire Lake and Anzac, Alta.

On Nov. 26, 2020, a 23-year-old male was arrested and is facing the following charges:

  • Break and enter into a business (x3)
  • Mischief over $5000. (x2)
  • Mischief under $5000.
  • Theft over $5000., and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

He was remanded in police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Fort McMurray Provincial Courthouse on Nov. 30, 2020.

Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate break and enter/theft at two businesses – Update 1

After engaging several police units in Wood Buffalo RCMP, including General Duty, Police Dog Services, Forensic Identification Section, General Investigation Services and Crime Reduction Unit, into the break and enter/theft at multiple businesses in the rural areas of Gregoire Lake Reserve and Anzac, one adult male has been arrested in relation to these break and enter/thefts.

On Nov. 5, 2020, a 25-year-old male was arrested and is facing the following charges:

  • Break and enter into a business and commit mischief over $5000.
  • Break and enter into a business and commit theft over $5000.
  • Break and enter into a business and commit mischief under $5000.
  • Mischief over $5000.
  • Mischief under $5000.
  • Theft over $5000., and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

He was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Fort McMurray Provincial Courthouse on Dec. 16, 2020.

Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate break and enter/theft at two businesses

On Dec. 3, 2018, at approximately 3 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to multiple break and enters/thefts in the area of Gregoire Lake Reserve and Anzac. General duty officers attended assisted by Police Dog Services and the Forensic Identification Section.

It is believed the break and enters/thefts occurred between Dec. 2, 2018, at 10:30 p.m. and Dec. 3, 2018, at 3 a.m.

"Tackling rural crime is our top priority." says Inspector Eric Stebenne, Operations Officer at Wood Buffalo Detachment. "We are actively pursuing this investigation and working with our rural partners and utilizing police resources to solve these crimes."

Unknown suspect(s) broke into a local business in Gregoire Lake Reserve and stole numerous items including a white coloured flat deck Dodge Ram. Shortly after, RCMP received an alarm coming from the local gas station in Anzac. The stolen Dodge Ram was observed on video surveillance backing into the store breaking the front glass entry door and surrounding glass windows.

The male driver of the vehicle, was last seen wearing:

  • Dark work outfit with yellow highlighting
  • Black and yellow gloves

RCMP is investigating the matter and are asking anyone who may have knowledge of this incident, or who may have seen anything unusual, to please contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040, or your local police. If anyone has any surveillance footage of any suspicious activity recorded, they are being asked to share the video footage with police.
