*Update* Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Suspicious Death - Hwy 21

Investigators from the RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Strathcona County detachment are asking for the public's assistance as they continue to investigate a death on Hwy 21 near Township Road 534 early Friday morning.

Officers who first arrived on the scene located a deceased male with visible injuries. The male has been tentatively identified and is believed to be a young man in his 20's. An autopsy has been scheduled for December 22, 2020. The RCMP Major Crimes unit is treating the suspicious death as a homicide.

Investigators are asking for the public's assistance and appealing to anyone with dashcam video who was travelling on Hwy 21, between Hwy 16 and Fort Saskatchewan on December 17, 2020 between the hours of 10:45pm and 11:45pm to speak with investigators. Anyone who may have the described video or anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741. Strathcona County RCMP on scene of a suspicious death – Highway 21

Strathcona County, Alta. – The RCMP's Major Crime Unit (MCU) and Strathcona County RCMP Detachment are investigating the suspicious death of an adult male. On Dec. 17, 2020 at approximately 11:40 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP responded to a call from a passerby who observed an injured male near a vehicle on Highway 21.

MCU have now assumed carriage of the police investigation which is in its preliminary stages.

Southbound lanes on Highway 21 between Township Road 540 and 534 are expected to be re-routed until later this afternoon.

No further information is available at this time. An updated media release will be provided when more information becomes available.

Strathcona RCMP on scene of incident – Hwy 21

Strathcona, Alta. – RCMP members are currently on scene of an active investigation on Highway 21 between Township Road 540 and 534. The south bound lanes will be closed for the investigation and are not expected to be open until later today.

There is no concern for safety.

An update will be provided when available and the public are thanked for the cooperation in avoiding the area.
