Update: Hillsborough man charged with first-degree murder

A 49-year-old-man from Hillsborough, N.B., has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 43-year-old woman from Hillsborough.

On May 2, 2020, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the Southeast District RCMP received a report of a woman possibly being deceased at a residence on Main Street in Hillsborough. When police arrived, they discovered the body of a woman.

Shortly after, a 49-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody. He was driving in a vehicle a few kilometres away from the scene at the time he was arrested. Both the suspect and victim were living together.

On May 3, Calvin Andrew Lewis appeared in court by way of tele-remand and was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tina Tingley-McAleer.

On May 4, 2020, Lewis appeared in court by way of a tele-remand. He has been sent for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation. He is scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on June 4, 2020, at 1:30 p.m.

New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit is continuing to investigate this incident.
