Two-vehicle collision on TCH near Springdale claims life of woman

A 26-year-old woman of Flowers Cove is deceased following a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) west of Springdale Junction that occurred yesterday.

Shortly after noon, police were dispatched to the report of motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a SUV. RCMP officers from Springdale, Deer Lake and Traffic Services, along with fire and ambulance, attended the scene. The investigation revealed that the westbound SUV lost control, and collided with a pickup truck that was traveling eastbound. The SUV came to a stop after going down over an embankment on the side of the highway. Rain was falling at the time of the collision and the roads were wet.

The woman, who was a passenger in the SUV, died at the scene. Both drivers were transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.

A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services Central attended the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was engaged and the investigation is continuing.
