Saskatchewan RCMP arrest 27-year-old female in relation to ongoing homicide investigation

Over the past several months, the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North (MCU-N) has continued to investigate the homicide of 26-year-old Braeden Alfred James Sparvier, of the Onion Lake Cree Nation.

On July 16, 2020, MCU-N investigators, with the assistance of officers from the Prince Albert RCMP Detachment, arrested a 27-year-old female who was identified as being involved in the homicide.

Shari Heathen of the Onion Lake Cree Nation, has been charged with Second-Degree Murder, contrary to Sec. 235(1) of the Criminal Code. She is scheduled to make her first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on July 17, 2020.

The investigation is ongoing.

Turtleford RCMP: UPDATE – Suspicious sudden death now being investigated as homicide

Turtleford and Onion Lake RCMP along with RCMP specialized units remain on scene and continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the death of an adult male on January 1, 2020, in the RM of Frenchman Butte, west of St. Walburg, SK.

The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Braeden Alfred James Sparvier.

Based on the information gathered thus far, Saskatchewan RCMP can confirm Braeden Alfred James Sparvier was the victim of a homicide.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service today.

The victim's next of kin have been notified and Victim Services have been offered.

A two kilometer stretch along the grid of Township Road 542 in the RM of Frenchman Butte continues to be blocked off for an undetermined amount of time and traffic is being re-routed. Saskatchewan RCMP would like to thank residents and motorists in the Turtleford detachment area for their patience, cooperation and for giving officers the space required to conduct a thorough investigation.

Turtleford RCMP: Suspicious sudden death

On January 1, 2020, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Saskatchewan RCMP received the report of a deceased, unidentified male located outside of a rural location in the RM of Frenchman Butte, east of St. Walburg, SK.

Preliminary investigation has determined the death of the male to be suspicious in nature.

A number of specialized RCMP teams have been deployed to the Turtleford detachment area to assist with the investigation. Officers are working diligently to identify the male and determine the circumstances which led to his death.

A two kilometer stretch along Township Road 542 in the RM of Frenchman Butte is blocked off for an undetermined amount of time and traffic is being re-routed as officers conduct the investigation. Motorists are asked to respect any road blocks and directions given by the police officers on scene.

An autopsy has been ordered and will be taking place in the coming days. As the investigation is in the preliminary stages, there are no further details available at this time. Additional updates will be provided as soon as they become available.
