Tow truck collides with a residence in Port au Port West; two people deceased

Two people died on August 29, 2020, after a tow truck collided with a residence in Port au Port West.

At approximately 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, Bay St. George RCMP received the report of a collision on Front Road. A tow truck, carrying three occupants, departed the road, collided with the front of the residence, and continued into the home before coming to a stop.

Bay St. George RCMP, Russell's Ambulance Service and volunteer firefighters from Stephenville and Port au Port, attended the scene. The home was extensively damaged.

The 61-year-old male tow truck driver, and an elderly woman, who was inside the residence, died at the scene. The two passengers of the tow truck and an elderly man, who was inside the home, were injured and transported to Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services, and Police Dog Services West also attended the scene and the investigation is continuing. The Department of Highways and Newfoundland Power were called in to assist in the safe processing of the scene.
