Three people arrested for impaired driving following tips from the public in Stephenville

Bay St. George RCMP arrested three impaired drivers in Stephenville following recent tips from the public of suspected impaired drivers between October 16-19, 2020.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on October 16, 2020, Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a vehicle striking a power pole on White's Avenue in Stephenville and the driver was suspected to be impaired. Officers located the driver, a 52-year-old man, at his residence in Stephenville. He showed signs of impairment. He was arrested for impaired driving, was transported to the detachment and provided breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit. He was issued a driver's licence suspension, his vehicle was seized and impounded and he was released to attend court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on October 17, 2020, Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver in Stephenville. Officers located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 59-year-old Stephenville man, was found to be impaired and in breach of a court ordered condition. He was arrested and was transported to the detachment and provided breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit. The man, who appeared in court, was charged with driving while impaired and failure to comply with an undertaking. He was released from custody by the court to reappear at a later date. The driver was issued a driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on October 19, 2020, Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver in Stephenville who struck a building and a parked car. The driver, a 73-year-old Stephenville man, was located and failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than two and half times the legal limit. He was issued a driver's licence suspension and his vehicle was seized and impounded. He faces charges of impaired driving and is scheduled to attend court at a later date.
