On April 24 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a member of the RCMP Traffic Services in North Sydney was monitoring traffic on Hwy. 125 near Exit 5. They observed a Toyota Camry travelling at a high rate of speed and activated the RADAR. The vehicle's speed was measured at 165 km/hr, 65 km/hr over the posted speed limit.
The RCMP officer conducted a vehicle stop, and the 19-year-old male driver from Pleasant Hill was charged with Stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicle was seized and impounded. The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50. The driver was also charged for Driving Without Insurance and Failing to Wear a Seatbelt.
The RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well.
