Selkirk RCMP respond to shots fired near residence

On June 15, 2020, at 1:05 am, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a firearm having been discharged near a residence located on Road 90N in the RM of St. Clements, approximately 6 km's north of Libau. The caller advised that the suspect, who was believed to be intoxicated, had driven to the location, discharged a firearm, and then fled the scene in his vehicle.

Officers immediately attended to the area and located the suspect vehicle a short distance away. After initiating a high risk traffic stop, the 41-year-old male driver was taken into custody and arrested for Careless Use of a Firearm as well as Impaired Driving.

Upon search of the vehicle, officers located a rifle along with several rounds of ammunition including a spent casing in the rifle.

The accused was transported back to the Selkirk Detachment where he provided samples of his breath for analysis with results nearly twice the legal limit.

41-year-old Jason Shore, from Steinbach, was remanded into custody on charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, Operation of a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Level Over 80 mg%, Discharging a Firearm while being Reckless, Careless Use of a Firearm and several other firearm related charges.

Selkrik RCMP continue to investigate.
