The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) has charged a man from Saskatoon with child pornography offences in relation to an investigation that began in December 2019, into a person sharing child pornography using a popular social media chat application.
On May 21, 2020, members of the Saskatchewan ICE Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Saskatoon, which was identified as the location where the offences were occurring. Child pornography was located at the residence and two cellular phones, two laptops, two external hard drives, and a cloud account were seized for further forensic analysis.
Steven A. McEwen, age 37, of Saskatoon, was arrested at the location and has been charged with the following:
- 2 counts of Possession of Child Pornography, Sec. 163.1 (4) of the Criminal Code; and
- Make Available Child Pornography, Sec. 163.1 (3) of the Criminal Code.
McEwen appeared in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Saskatoon on May 21, 2020, and was released from custody on numerous conditions. He is scheduled to reappear in court on August 10, 2020.
The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is comprised of investigators from the RCMP, Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and Prince Albert Police Service. Their mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of children on the Internet.
