La Ronge RCMP lay charge in fatal pedestrian hit and run incident

On June 14, 2020, shortly after midnight, La Ronge RCMP were dispatched to the report of an unconscious male located on Queen Street in Lac La Ronge First Nation.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was unconscious and displayed injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.

As officers continued to investigate, the RCMP Operational Communication Centre received a report from an adult female claiming she hit someone while driving on Queen Street.

Officers located the adult female at a residence where a truck with visible front-end damage was parked in the driveway. The female displayed visible signs of intoxication and was arrested without incident.

A Saskatchewan RCMP Collision Reconstructionist completed an examination of the scene.

The victim has been identified and his name will not be released. His family has been notified and Victim Services has been offered. An autopsy is scheduled to take place on June 16, 2020, in Saskatoon.

Sandra Halkett was charged with impaired operation causing death under the Criminal Code. Halkett was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on June 15, 2020.
