News release

The Rocky Mountain House Crime Reduction Unit was conducting a targeted operation in a known crime area on July 21 when they identified and arrested a repeat offender, recovering a rifle of unknown illegal origin.

The accused male was observed participating in suspicious activity and was arrested on his outstanding warrants, without incident. A search incidental to his arrest yielded an illegally obtained 30-30 rifle with ammunition.

A 27-year-old male is facing 17 criminal code charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, fail to comply with a release order condition (x6) et al.

He was remanded in custody and had a court appearance today in Red Deer provincial court.

"Rocky Mountain House RCMP's local Crime Reduction Unit remains active and focused on targeting repeat offenders within our community" says Staff Sergeant Carl Dinsdale, Detachment Commander of Rocky Mountain House. "It's a success when we get an illegal firearm out of the wrong hands."
