RCMP update on search for missing fishermen

December 21, 2020
Hillsburn, Nova Scotia

News release

The RCMP continues the search for the five missing fishermen from the Chief William Saulis fishing vessel.

Yesterday, RCMP Air Services did an aerial search of approximately 100 kilometres of coastline between Digby Gut and Harbourville via helicopter. The search did not locate the missing fishermen nor debris from the vessel. The air search has been suspended for today due to availability of a helicopter.

On December 19, debris unrelated to the air search was located on shore. This debris has not yet been confirmed to be associated to the vessel. The RCMP is working closely with the Transportation Safety Board in an attempt to determine if the debris is related. It should be noted that materials routinely wash up and litter the shoreline making the task of determining fresh debris difficult.

The Nova Scotia RCMP will be providing the public with daily updates and information as the search for the missing fishermen continues.
