RCMP Traffic Services West stops vehicle on TCH near St Jude's and finds open alcohol, cannabis and cash on June 18, 2020.

Following a report of a speeding vehicle, RCMP Traffic Services West conducted a traffic stop yesterday that resulted in charges against a 23-year-old Mount Moriah man.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officers alerted the RCMP to a car traveling at a high rate of speed on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) from Pasadena towards Deer Lake. Traffic Services officers from Deer Lake Detachment located and stopped the vehicle on the TCH near St. Judes.

Officers observed open alcohol, cannabis products, and cannabis paraphernalia in the vehicle. Further investigation led to the seizure of nearly ten thousand dollars in cash that was concealed on the driver.

The driver was ticketed under the Liquor Control Act, the Cannabis Control Act, and the investigation is continuing.
