Cascumpec Bay, Prince Edward Island

News release

At 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17th the search for two youth, presumed lost at sea on the evening of Wednesday, September 16th, was turned over to the RCMP by Joint Rescue Coordination Center of the Canadian Armed Forces (JRCC).

From the moment of the teens being reported missing, Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) teams searched diligently alongside JRCC and RCMP officers, volunteer fire members, and community members on land and in private vessels on the water.

The area was expanded and searched until 9:00 p.m. when the it determined to be too unsafe to search in the dark.

Search activities continue today, Friday, September 18th and the RCMP thank JRCC, GSAR volunteers and the many community members who assisted in this very difficult rescue and recovery. Anyone struggling with this should seek out the professionals available through the community to help cope as we come to terms with the situation.

Updates will be provided as they develop.

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those lost.
