Safety Tips

The RCMP would like to remind everyone, with the holiday season in full swing, that parcel theft is a growing concern this year as many of you have taken to online shopping during this pandemic.

With home deliveries expected to hit an all-time high this holiday season, thieves are taking advantage of the increasing numbers of parcels being dropped off at your doorstep. Packages left unattended make for easy targets for would-be thieves.

To help keep your packages safe this holiday season, the RCMP recommends:

- installing security cameras or a smart doorbell on your property to monitor & record any suspicious activity.
- choose an alternate delivery location for your package – a nearby Post Office or your place of employment.
- consider the use of a delivery locker on your property.
- request a signature upon delivery.

A good way to defend against this type of crime is working together with your neighbours: know who they are and talk to them to make arrangements to pick up your packages if you won't be home for an extended period.

If you believe you may have been a victim of theft or witnessed a porch theft, please contact the police immediately.
