News release

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador has multiple measures in place to deal with health emergencies such as the pandemic Covid-19. A health emergency operations plan has been implemented which, in conjunction with business continuity planning, ensures we remain equipped to deliver priority policing services throughout the province as we continue to work closely with our provincial and national health partners.

To limit the spread of Covid-19, effective today, the RCMP asks that the public ONLY visit RCMP Detachments and Headquarters for urgent matters when unable to contact by phone. Persons required to report to a Detachment by court order should contact their local Detachment for instructions.

The RCMP's preparedness efforts have also focused on ensuring police officers have the supplies, including personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks, and the information they need should they encounter individuals displaying symptoms of Covid-19. In addition, all employees whose duties allow them to work from home will be instructed to do so today.

Other measures include the cancellation of all group fitness activities, non-essential meetings and any group gatherings at Detachments or Headquarters.

The RCMP encourages all residents to follow the direction of health agencies and recommended protocols to "flatten the curve" and limit the spread of Covid-19.
