RCMP NL continues enforcement of excessive speeders

Burin Peninsula RCMP seizes vehicle for speeding 55 km/hr over the speed limit on June 20, 2020.

RCMP NL continues the enforcement of excessive speeders in the Province in charging and suspending two more drivers and seizing the vehicles following recent traffic stops.

On June 20, 2020, Burin Peninsula RCMP observed a vehicle speeding on Route 210 near Frenchman's Cove. Police obtained the vehicle's speed as 145 km/hr in a posted 90 km/h zone and conducted a traffic stop. The 17-year-old driver was ticketed for speeding and was issued a seven-day driver's licence suspension. The vehicle was seized and impounded.

On June 23, 2020, RCMP Traffic Services East observed a vehicle speeding on Veterans Memorial Highway. Police obtained the vehicle's speed as 151 km/hr in a posted 100 km/h zone and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 22-year-old Carbonear man, was ticketed for speeding and was issued a seven-day driver's licence suspension. The vehicle was seized and impounded.
