RCMP NL arrests three impaired drivers in less than 24 hours

Two men and one woman are facing charges of impaired driving following traffic stops conducted by RCMP NL between June 8 and 9, 2020.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on June 8, Burin Peninsula RCMP stopped a pickup truck on Ville Marie Drive in Marystown for infractions under the Highway Traffic Act. The driver, a 34-year-old Marystown man, was found to be impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit. He was issued a driver's licence suspension, ticketed for having no insurance and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. that same day, Ferryland RCMP stopped a vehicle for speeding in Ferryland. The driver, a 46-year-old Ferryland man, was found to be impaired by alcohol. He was arrested for impaired driving and was transported back to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than three times the legal limit. He was issued a driver's licence suspension, ticketed for speeding and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

Today, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Bay St. George RCMP stopped a vehicle on Minnesota Drive in Stephenville. Officers observed open alcohol within the cup holder of the vehicle and the driver, a 22-year-old Stephenville woman, failed a roadside breath test. She was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the detachment where she provided breath samples that were more than the legal limit. She was issued a driver's licence suspension and her vehicle was seized and impounded.

All three drivers were released from custody and are set to attend court at later dates to answer to charges of impaired driving.

The names of the three drivers are not being released as charges are not yet sworn before the court.
