RCMP NL arrested four individuals for impaired driving offences this past weekend.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on October 31, 2020, Natuashish RCMP responded to the report of a suspected impaired driver. The described vehicle was located by police and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a 23-year-old man, was found to be impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and transported back to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than the legal limit. He was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving. His driver's licence was suspended.

At approximately 3:00 a.m. that same morning, Bay St. George RCMP were on patrol in Stephenville and observed a vehicle that was speeding. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 36-year-old man, was found to be impaired by a drug. He was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the detachment where he completed a drug recognition evaluation. Officers await the results of that testing to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate. The SUV was seized and impounded and the man's driver's licence was suspended.

On Halloween night, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Port Saunders RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle collision involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Officers learned that the ATV struck a car on Sunset Drive in Port Saunders. Police attended the scene and spoke to the driver of the ATV, a 43-year-old man, and determined he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested for impaired driving and was transported back to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than two and a half times the legal limit. He was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving. His driver's licence was suspended.

On November 1, 2020, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP received a report of a car that struck a fire hydrant on Markland Road. Police attended the scene and located car, which was stuck on the fire hydrant, and the driver, a 26-year-old woman, who was suspected to be impaired by alcohol. The driver failed a road side breath test and was arrested for impaired driving. She was transported to the detachment where she provided a breath sample that was nearly twice the legal limit. The woman failed to provide the required second breath sample and she now faces a charge of refusal. The investigation is continuing. She was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date. Her driver's licence was suspended and the car was seized and impounded.
