RCMP Major Crimes Unit lay charges following homicide in Maskwacis

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit have arrested and charged two males in the July 21 death of a 38-year-old man on the Samson Cree Nation.

At 5:12 p.m. on July 21, the Maskwacis RCMP were called to assist EMS with a male who was assaulted at a residence. The male was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Maskwacis RCMP engaged Major Crimes Unit – South to take carriage of the investigation.

On July 22 the investigation led to the conclusion that a charge of second degree murder would be supported.

A 31-year-old male and a 33 year old male are both charged with second degree murder in the homicide of Benjamin Morin of Maskwacis.

Judicial interim release hearings have been held. He was remanded in custody to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on July 24 and he was is remanded in custody to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on July 28.
