RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating suspicious deaths – Update 2

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit can now advise that Anthony Bilodeau (31) of Glendon was charged with second degree murder (x2) of Jacob Sansom (39) of Nobleford, Alta., and Maurice Cardinal (57) of Bonnyville, Alta.

It is alleged that at approximately 9:30 p.m., on March 27, 2020 two vehicles came to a stop on a rural road near Glendon. A verbal then physical confrontation ensued with the occupants of the two vehicles. A third vehicle arrived on the scene and several shots were fired by the accused, which resulted in the death of the victims.

On March 28, 2020 at about 4 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP responded to a call from a citizen who reported two deceased males on the road outside of a parked truck.

Autopsies were completed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on March 31, 2020, and the deaths were deemed as homicide.

Further investigation led police to the accused who turned himself into the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment where an arrest was made and charges were laid. He was remanded into custody following a judicial hearing and is set to appear in St. Paul provincial court via CCTV on April 9, 2020.

The RCMP would like to thank the public who provided tips in regards to this investigation.

The family of Jacob Sansom and Maurice Cardinal have asked for privacy as they grieve the loss of their loved ones.

RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating suspicious deaths - Update

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit have arrested an adult male and charges of second degree murder (x2) have been laid in relation to the death of two males that was reported to police on March 28, 2020.

Autopsies were completed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The deaths of the males have been deemed as homicide and the manner of death was by gun shots.

The name of the accused and victims will not be released at this time pending a swearing of an Information.

A further update will be provided tomorrow with additional information.

RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating suspicious deaths

On March 28, 2020 at about 4 a.m., the Bonnyville RCMP responded to a call from a citizen who reported two males on the road outside of a parked truck. Bonnyville RCMP determined on scene; Township Road 622 and Range Road 84, that both males were deceased and the circumstances of their death appear suspicious.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has responded to Bonnyville to take carriage of this investigation. Both males, aged 39 and 57 suffered gunshot wounds. A truck was seized on scene and is being forensically examined.
