RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating suspicious death

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has been deployed to take carriage of a suspicious death investigation on the Sunchild First Nation.

On Sept. 9, 2020, at 11:12 p.m., the Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a residential house fire on the Sunchild First Nation. The Sunchild First Nation Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire, but the home was lost.

The Fire Investigator investigated the scene, and human remains were located. The Rocky Mountain House RCMP enlisted the RCMP MCU.

An autopsy will be conducted next week in order to make a determination of both the identity of the person and the cause of death.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues including scene examination by the Forensic Identification Section.
