News release

Today, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador announced that Klondike Night will return to RCMP Headquarters in 2020, with the date set for March 27. Klondike Night began with RCMP NL more than 30 years ago, with a total of more than $970,000 raised for local charities over the years.

"Klondike Night is a signature event for the RCMP and we are excited to bring it back," said Assistant Commissioner Ches Parsons, Commanding Officer RCMP NL. "The public can expect a fun night with live entertainment, prizes, blackjack, roulette and other games of chance, along with hearty grub from the Klondike Kitchen. I expect that in 2020 we will top the $1,000,000 mark in total monies raised for the benefit of charitable organizations in our province."

Klondike 2020 admission tickets are just $10 and can be purchased at the Church Lads' Brigade (C.L.B.) on Harvey Road, VOCM on Kenmount Road, RCMP Headquarters 100 East White Hills Road or online: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rcmp-klondike-2020-tickets-89993758755 Each admission ticket includes eligibility for a door prize draw.

The RCMP, C.L.B. and VOCM will also be selling Grand Prize tickets at $5 each with the top prize being a trip for two to New York City to see the Broadway hit show Come From Away (or a $3000 travel voucher).

Charities for this year's event are:

  1. The C.L.B.
  2. VOCM Cares Foundation
  3. The Memory Garden, a project of the Fallen Members Fund, to be built at RCMP Headquarters. The garden will be a place to remember all RCMP NL employees who have passed.

Colonel Gail Dick, Governor and Commandant of the C.L.B. welcomed the news. "I am very pleased that Klondike Night is returning to its home were it all began. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RCMP for letting us take care of Klondike Night for the last few years and for bringing us onboard as a charity for this year's event. The funds raised will help us continue to support programs for our youth and give them the tools to become the future leaders of our province."

"VOCM Cares Foundation is honoured to be a charity recipient for Klondike Night 2020 and to be a part of this momentous occasion," said Blair Patrick, volunteer Board Chair for the VOCM Cares Foundation. "Through this opportunity, we can provide even greater support to programs and projects that have a positive impact on the health, safety, and education of local communities."

"We are so thankful that the Memory Garden will be supported with Klondike 2020," said Helen Cleary-Escott, member of the Fallen Members' Fund Committee. "The garden will be located on the southern side of RCMP Headquarters, facing Signal Hill, and will feature white bricks inscribed simply with the names of employees who have passed. It will be a space to sit, reflect and remember."

All categories of employees will be included in the Memory Garden - regular members, civilian members and public service employees, regardless of how they have passed. Spring 2020 is anticipated for the sod turning. Anyone wishing to submit a name for inclusion in the Memory Garden can send an email to RCMPNLMemoryGarden-JardinCommemoratifGRCTNL@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
