RCMP investigating rash of graffiti vandalism

February 26, 2020
Moncton, New Brunswick

News release

The Codiac Regional RCMP is investigating a rash of vandalism in downtown Moncton, N.B., and seeking information from the public to help identify those responsible.

Sometime between February 14 and February 16, 2020, 35 incidents of graffiti were documented along Main Street, Botsford Street, Highfield Street, Queen Street, Assomption Boulevard and St. George Street.

"Graffiti vandals may think their actions cause no harm, but the creation of graffiti is considered vandalism and you can face criminal charges of mischief under or over $5,000," says Cst. Chris Fader of the Codiac Regional RCMP. "It is a costly crime to businesses and communities, and we work closely with our municipal, business and community partners on a collaborative graffiti management plan. Anyone who has had property vandalized by graffiti is encouraged to report it to the police and to remove the graffiti as soon as possible in order to reduce its spread."

Police are asking anyone with information about any of these incidents to contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
