RCMP arrest individual in relation to Fentanyl Importation

In August of 2018 an investigation was conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Toronto Airport Detachment(TAD) for the importation of Fentanyl, a suspect Michael Christopher Wozney was identified. Officers attempted to arrest Wozney but he fled in his vehicle in a reckless manner. Due to public safety concerns the RCMP discontinued the enforcement action and as a result, Wozney escaped apprehension. A Canada wide arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.

On March 9th 2020, RCMP officers from TAD located and arrested Wozney in Toronto. At the time of his arrest, Wozney was in possession of fentanyl. Further investigation revealed he was responsible for importing fentanyl and amphetamines on several other occasions.

Michael Christopher Wozney (34 years old) of Etobicoke, ON is facing 16 criminal charges in relation to the possession, importation and trafficking of fentanyl, as well as other criminal code charges. The charges are described as follows:

  • 3 counts of unlawfully importing into Canada Schedule I (Fentanyl) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • 3 counts of conspiracy to Import a controlled substance (Fentanyl) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • 2 counts of conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance (Fentanyl) contrary to the CCC
  • 2 counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance (Fentanyl), contrary to the CDSA
  • 1 count of unlawfully import into Canada a Schedule 1 substance (Amphetamines) contrary to the CDSA
  • 1 count of conspiracy to import into Canada a Schedule 1 substance (Amphetamines) contrary to the CCC
  • 1 count of conspiracy to possess for the purpose of trafficking into Canada a Schedule 1 substance (Amphetamines) contrary to the CCC
  • 1 count of possessing a Schedule 1 substance (Fentanyl) contrary to the CDSA
  • 1 count of Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to the CCC
  • 1 count of flight from police, contrary to the CCC

WOZNEY is being held in custody, his next court appearance is March 26th, 2020 at Old City Hall in Toronto.
