On December 21, 2020, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a report of a head-on collision on Highway 3, approximately 5 km west of Prince Albert. RCMP officers, including an RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist, Parkland Ambulance, and Prince Albert and Buckland Fire Departments attended to the location of the collision. Road conditions at the time of the collision were extremely icy.

Preliminary investigation indicates an eastbound car collided head-on with a westbound truck after the eastbound car pulled into the westbound lane.

The eastbound car had two occupants, a 30-year-old male from Prince Albert, and a 4-year-old boy from Parkside, Saskatchewan, who were both declared deceased by EMS at the scene. Their families have been advised of their deaths. The RCMP will not be releasing their names.

The westbound truck had two occupants, a 34-year-old female, and a 3-year-old girl, both from the Shellbrook area, who were both taken to hospital with what were reported to be non life-threatening injuries.

Highway 3 between Cedar Avenue and 15th Street Northwest was shut down and traffic was re-routed for several hours as the investigation was conducted and the scene cleared.

Alcohol is not considered a factor. The investigation is ongoing and autopsies have been ordered by the Saskatchewan Coroner's Service at a date yet to be determined.
