Portage la Prairie RCMP respond to male with firearm

On October 12, 2020, at approximately 9:00 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to numerous complaints of a male in possession of a firearm in the area of Lorne Avenue West and 8th Street NW. Several people had reported a male had pointed a gun at them and was walking throughout the area. It was also reported that gunshots were heard. One vehicle with people inside was shot at and struck. Nobody was injured.

Police responded immediately. RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Emergency Response Team attended to assist. Just before 9:30 pm, police located the male matching the description. He was arrested, and a firearm was located nearby.

A 17-year-old male from Portage is facing numerous firearms charges, including Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, Possession for a Purpose Dangerous to the Public Peace, Point Firearm x3, Intentionally Discharge a Firearm, and Discharge a Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life.

He remains in custody. The investigation continues.
