Portage la Prairie RCMP respond to fatal vehicle-train collision

News release

On September 18, 2020, at 8:50 pm, officers from Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a collision between a vehicle and train that occurred on Highway 34 near Road 66 N, located just north of Highway 1, approximately 42 kilometres west of Portage la Prairie.

Investigators have determined that an SUV was travelling southbound on Highway 34 when the vehicle drove through the crossing arm and struck the eastbound CN train.

The driver of the vehicle, who has yet to be identified, was pronounced deceased on scene.

Officers from Portage la Prairie along with an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to assist CN Police Service & the Chief Medical Examiners Office in the investigation.
