Port Saunders RCMP arrests man for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking

A 46-year-old Port Saunders man was arrested for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking following an investigation by Port Saunders RCMP.

On April 22, 2020, Port Saunders RCMP received information from a Canadian Postal Inspector of a suspicious package destined for Port Saunders. The five-day investigation, involving Port Saunders RCMP, RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit and Postal Inspectors, revealed that the package contained cocaine which originated in Montreal.

On April 27, 2020, after the man picked up the package, police conducted a traffic stop in Port Saunders and arrested him for possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

Officers seized 3 ounces of cocaine, an estimated street value of approximately $10,000.

The man now faces charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine. He was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date.

The investigation is continuing.
