July 15, 2020
Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Following the recommendations in the Halifax, Nova Scotia: Street Checks Report by Dr. Scot Wortley, data related to RCMP street checks in Nova Scotia will be held until December 31, 2022. The personal information will then be deleted.

The data is being held until 2022 to allow time for people to obtain their personal information.

To get information that may have been recorded about you as part of a street check, you can file a Privacy Act request for personal information. There is no cost.

Requests can be filed for street checks that may have occurred anytime between 2005 and 2019 in the Halifax area and between 2017 and 2019 outside of the Halifax area. Data for street checks that may have occurred outside of the Halifax area before 2017 has been deleted as per RCMP policy and the Privacy Act.

Requests for personal information must be filed by December 31, 2021.
