A single-vehicle rollover collision in Indian Bay left two people with serious injuries on May 5, 2020.

Sixty-two-year-old Gerard Shaw of Indian Bay and 41-year-old Kelly Pickett of Centreville are charged with various offences following a single-vehicle rollover collision that occurred during the early morning hours of May 25, 2020, leaving two individuals with serious injuries.

Shortly before 4:00 a.m. that morning, New-Wes-Valley RCMP were notified of the collision in Indian Bay. Police attended the scene and found that one passenger was ejected from the car while another was trapped inside. The driver of the vehicle, Kelly Pickett, had left the scene after contacting Gerard Shaw to pick her up prior to the arrival of police, fire and ambulance. The occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported for immediate medical attention.

Police conducted a lengthy investigation and learned that the crash scene was allegedly staged by Pickett and Shaw to portray one of the passengers of the car as being the driver. The two then departed the scene, left the injured passengers behind, and headed to a remote area. After Pickett, who was seriously injured during the collision, was secured in a residence, Shaw reported the collision to police.

On August 3, 2020, Pickett was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  1. Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm (Criminal Code)
  2. Public Mischief (Criminal Code)
  3. Speeding 51 Kilometres and over (Highway Traffic Act)
  4. Failing to Stop at Accident Scene (Highway Traffic Act)
  5. Failing to Render Assistance to Injured Person (Highway Traffic Act)

On August 5, 2020, Shaw was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  1. Public Mischief (Criminal Code)
  2. Failing to Render Assistance to Injured Person (Highway Traffic Act)

The two were released from custody and are scheduled to attend court at later dates.
