Manitoba RCMP respond to prison break from Agassiz Youth Centre

On May 29, 2020, at 6:30 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of six young offenders attempting to escape from the Agassiz Youth Centre in Portage la Prairie.

Officers attended and were advised that five of the youths were successful in escaping under the fence and then fled on foot. The sixth young offender was apprehended before he could crawl under the fence. The young offenders were last seen running away from the Agassiz Youth Centre in an open field.

The area was immediately contained by police personnel and with the use of an aerial drone and our Police Dog Services unit, the five youths were located and arrested within a very short time period.

Five male youths, between the ages of 15 and 18, have been charged with Escape Lawful Custody and Prison Breach.

Portage la Prairie continue to investigate.
