At approximately 11:40 pm, on October 6, 2020, RCMP Central Traffic Services in Headingley received a report of a vehicle travelling eastbound in the westbound lane of the Perimeter Highway (Hwy 101), located between Henderson Highway and Main Street (Highway 9). Within a few minutes, officers were advised that a multi-vehicle collision had just occurred at this location.
The investigation has determined that a vehicle, being driven by a 78-year-old male from Winnipeg, was travelling eastbound, in the westbound lane, when he collided head-on with a westbound vehicle. This vehicle, being driven by a 21-year-old male from Stony Mountain, along with the other vehicle, were then struck by a westbound semi-trailer, being driven by a 41-year-old male from Winnipeg.
The 78-year-old was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The 21-year-old was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and the 41-year-old was not injured.
RCMP Central Traffic Services, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
