Canoe Cove, Prince Edward Island

News release

On Friday, June 19th, 2020, at approximately 4:19 p.m.,, the RCMP, North River Fire, Island EMS and Coast Guard responded to a person floating in the water off of Canoe Cove.

The man was rescued by the captain and crew of a local fishing boat called the Wind Gambler. The 66 year-old rescued male was kite boarding in the Northumberland Strait by himself when he fell into the water and could not recover. He suffered from hypothermia but was treated and released.

As the summer months approach, the RCMP would like to remind the public to practice safe water recreation. Ensure they have proper equipment and always let others know where you are expected to be and approximate time of return from your activities.

Thank you to all who assisted at the scene, especially the crew of the Wind Gambler.
