Man charged with aggravated assault

An 18-year-old man from Maisonnette, N.B., has been charged with aggravated assault and mischief following a stabbing incident.

On September 13, 2020, shortly after 1 a.m., members of the Caraquet RCMP responded to a residence on Chaleur Street in Maisonnette, where a 51-old-man had suffered stab wounds. The victim was able to leave the residence and was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, who initially refused to cooperate with police, came out of the home and was arrested about two hours after the incident.

On September 13, Louis Remi Cormier appeared before a judge by way of a tele-remand and was charged with aggravated assault. He was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing on September 14.

On September 14, an additional charge of mischief was laid in Caraquet Provincial Court against Louis Cormier. He was sent for a 30-day psychiatric assessment and is scheduled to return to court on October 9.

The investigation is ongoing.
