On August 14, 2020 shortly after midnight, Iqaluit RCMP received a report of a structure fire to a shack behind the elder's residence on the beach. Iqaluit fire department was already on scene and quickly extinguished the fire.
One adult male was located and removed from the shack and provided with immediate medical care. He was rushed to the Qikiqtani General Hospital by ambulance and pronounced deceased.
Iqaluit Detachment and the Iqaluit General Investigative Section are investigating the matter with the assistance from the Office of the Nunavut Fire Marshall.
