Iqaluit man charged with 2nd degree murder

In the early morning hours of February 6th 2020, police were called to a residence at the arctic college units in Iqaluit, NU. A 43-year-old woman was found deceased in one of the units and the circumstances of the death appeared to be suspicious in nature.

After an initial investigation, 52-year-old William Autut of Iqaluit, Nunavut has been arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder and fail to comply with a probation order. Autut was remanded into custody and his next scheduled court appearance is March 3, 2020 at the Nunavut Court of Justice.

The V Division Major Crime Unit, along with the V Division Forensic Identification Unit, Iqaluit Detachment and the Nunavut Office of the Chief Coroner are continuing to investigate the matter. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police at 867-979-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
