Ingonish Beach RCMP lay attempted murder and firearms charges

Ingonish Beach RCMP has laid several charges which include Attempted Murder, following an incident that occurred on June 21 in Cape North. Police were alerted to the incident when they responded to a call just after 4 p.m., that a man showed up at a store in Cape North, advising that someone shot him in the leg, with a shotgun.

The suspect ran into the woods behind a home after the shooting occurred. Additional RCMP resources were called in, including police from nearby detachments, RCMP Police Dog Services, and the RCMP Emergency Response Team. The suspect walked out of the woods at approximately 6 p.m. and was arrested by police without further incident. RCMP officers are on scene today on Blaze Rd., collecting evidence.

The victim told police that the suspect shot him after an argument. The two men are known to one another and the incident was not random. After being shot, the victim drove himself to the store to get help. He was taken to hospital by paramedics and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The suspect, a 61-year-old man from Cape North, was held in custody overnight and is facing charges of:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Discharging a Firearm with Intent
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

He will be appearing in Sydney Provincial Court today. The investigation is ongoing.
