On the evening of Saturday, February 22, 2020, Kings District RCMP and PEI Conservation Officers conducted pro-active patrols in relation to snowmobiles use. The initiative was to focus on proper use and licencing of snowmobile drivers and equipment, and public safety.

Around 9:00 p.m. as the group was conducting patrols in the Cardigan area, they checked two men on sleds. Both of the drivers showed signs of drinking alcohol and roadside alcohol tests were conducted.

The men, ages 34 and 37 years, from the Kings County area, each received Seven-Day Driving Suspensions and both machines were impounded. In addition, the 37 year old was arrested for Prohibited Driving from the Criminal Code. He male was processed and released to a court date in March at the Georgetown Provincial Court.

The RCMP and Provincial Conservation Officers continue to ensure Off Highway Vehicle activities are safe for everyone. The rules of the road, and in this case trails, are clear and simple and are put in place to ensure the safety of all riders. Officials urge drivers of snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles (ATV's) to enjoy the outdoor activities without impairment. Your reaction time is slowed and you are a danger to yourself and others when you drive impaired.... no matter what you drive.
