On January 15, 2020 the newly formed V Division Specialized Investigative Team (SIT) initiated an investigation into allegations of child pornography in Igloolik, Nunavut.
With the assistance of the Igloolik RCMP, the Specialized Investigative Team conducted an investigation into the allegations resulting in the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Igloolik on February 11, 2020. Police arrested and charged a 24 year old Igloolik man with one count of possession of child pornography, one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of luring a child.
He appeared before a Justice of the Peace on February 13, 2020 and was released with strict conditions. His next scheduled court appearance is June 1, 2020 in Igloolik, NU.
This is the first child pornography criminal charge for the newly formed unit which was created and staffed in the summer of 2019. The mandate of the Specialized Investigative Team is to assist and conduct investigations of sexual crimes involving children and youth within the territory.
