Holyrood RCMP arrests man following report of cat being shot in Avondale

Holyrood RCMP arrested a 62-year-old Avondale man on May 16, 2020, following a report of a cat being shot on a residential property in Avondale.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. that day, police received a report that a cat was injured by a suspected gun shot wound. Police attended the scene, conducted an investigation and arrested one man for animal cruelty.

The cat was taken to a vet for medical attention and was euthanized due to the extent of the injuries. The Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer has been engaged who will conduct a post mortem examination.

The man was released from police custody on a number of conditions and will face a charge of animal cruelty. He is set to attend court on September 16, 2020.

The investigation is continuing with more charges expected.
