**UPDATE: Jai Stagg is now in custody**

Harbour Grace RCMP is currently searching for 44-year-old Jai Stagg of Carbonear after he fled from a traffic stop where he was arrested for impaired driving, last night.

Harbour Grace RCMP was on patrol looking for a Pontiac G6 stemming from a number of reports of erratic driving and a theft that occurred earlier in the evening. Shortly before 11:00 p.m., Harbour Grace RCMP observed a car matching the description swerving over the roadway and conducted a traffic stop on the Veterans Memorial Highway near Harbour Grace.

The driver, Jai Stagg, was found to be impaired and was arrested by the officer. As the officer was attempting to have Stagg exit the vehicle, the car was put in drive and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

Moments later, the vehicle was located by another officer, who attempted to stop the car but the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed. In the interest of public safety police did not pursue. Efforts to located Stagg during the night were unsuccessful.

Today, a warrant of arrest was issued for Jai Stagg who is charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired driving, being unlawfully at large and theft under $5000.00
