Harbour Grace RCMP responds to collision of ATV and pickup truck in Salmon Cove; one man is injured

A 22-year-old Victoria man has serious injuries following a collision between his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a pickup truck that happened yesterday on the Main Road in Salmon Cove.

Harbour Grace RCMP received the report of the collision shortly before 5:00 p.m. The pickup truck backed out of a driveway and was on the road putting the vehicle into drive when it was struck from behind by an ATV that was driving down the main road. The ATV operator, who was wearing a helmet that came off during the collision, was thrown from the quad and suffered serious injuries. A second ATV travelling with the man fled from the scene following the collision.

The man was transported to Carbonear General Hospital and then to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
