RCMP officers from Happy Valley-Goose Bay Detachment and Labrador Traffic Services continue the enforcement of impaired drivers, arresting ten people suspected of impaired driving in the months of May and June, 2020.
Eight of these drivers now face charges of impaired driving, while two impaired driving investigations are ongoing. The drivers consisted of nine men and one woman between the ages of 19–59 years. Two drivers provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit and two drivers refused to provide breath samples. Nine of these investigations involved drivers suspected to have been impaired by alcohol, while one individual is suspected to be impaired by a drug or a combination of drugs.
Each driver was issued an immediate seven-day driver's licence suspension and their vehicles were seized and impounded for thirty days.
RCMP NL thanks the public for continuing to assist police in reporting suspected impaired drivers and continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
