Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit investigation leads to drug and weapons seizure

Grande Prairie RCMP have charged three people, and seized drugs and weapons, following a lengthy investigation.

On Sept. 26, 2020, members of the Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) began an investigation into drug trafficking. On Nov. 12, CRU, with the assistance of the Grande Prairie Municipal Drug Unit and General Duty members, executed a search warrant at two apartments located above a downtown business. The search resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • approx. 61 grams of suspected Fentanyl
  • approx. 16 grams of suspected Cocaine
  • approx. 28 grams of suspected Crystal Meth
  • approx. $2400 in Canadian currency
  • a crossbow & 5 types of firearm ammunition

Two stolen passports and other stolen property were also seized during the investigation.

Six people were located inside the residence, of which three are facing charges.

A 28-year-old male from Grande Prairie, Alta. has been charged with:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Fentanyl
  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of crime
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a weapon while prohibited x2

A 29-year-old male of Grande Prairie, Alta. has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Cocaine
  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Procure to be made an identity document x3
  • Possession of proceeds of crime
  • Possession of stolen property

Charges are pending against a 28-year-old female from Grande Prairie.

The 29-year-old male and the 28-year-old male are scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Dec. 2, 2020.
