Grande Prairie RCMP charge male and seize weapons

Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) have seized weapons and laid charges, after locating a male wanted on outstanding charges.

RCMP CRU and Alberta Sheriffs Safe City and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Unit, had received information from the public concerning a residence in the Highland Park neighbourhood. On Sept. 24, 2020, police followed up on these complaints and attended the residence, seeking to locate a male known to have warrants for his arrest. With assistance from RCMP General Duty and Police Dog Service (PDS), the male was located and arrested in the backyard of the residence, after trying to flee over the fence. Upon his arrest and a subsequent search warrant on the residence, police located and seized the following items:

  • A loaded pistol magazine
  • A restricted pistol: GSG-1911 handgun
  • A pocket knife
  • Brass knuckles
  • Bear spray
  • Imitation firearms

A 22-year-old male of Grande Prairie, has been charged with the following:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a restricted firearm & ammunition
  • Fail to comply with a release order x4
  • Fail to comply with a probation order x2
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

He is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Nov. 23, 2020.
