Gimli, Manitoba

News release

At approximately 1:30 pm, on January 10, 2020, Gimli RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9, at the intersection with 17th Avenue, located approximately two kilometers north of Sandy Hook, Manitoba.

The investigation has determined that a SUV, being driven by a 43-year-old female from the RM of Gimli, was heading northbound behind another vehicle when this vehicle began to slow down. The driver of the SUV attempted to slow down as well but due to the icy roads, maneuvered her vehicle to the left to avoid a collision. Her vehicle then entered the southbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, being driven by a 61-year-old female from the RM of Gimli.

The 61-year-old female was transported to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The 43-year-old female driver and her 39-year-old female passenger were not injured in the collision.

Alcohol and drugs are not factors in the collision.

Gimli RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
